Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 31282 to
King Of The Ring.
Alex Maier was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Hanso Meulendijk and
Mats Jonsson.
Hongkong started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Noculak - Guerrieri, Anderson, Kottmann - Stern, Gontier, Morna, Fincken, Maskin - Proveniers, Kanclerz.
Ronnies decided to use a 4-3-3 set up.
Lineup: Hümmer - Dehlin, Santacreu, Čambalík, Bosetti - Modesti, Gunsch, Mellind - Baillo, Godulyan, Di Pascale.
Ronnies mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
B. Morna, but the Hongkong player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
After 13 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
G. Proveniers gave the Hongkong supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 2 - 0.
26 minutes into the game, Hongkong were awarded a penalty that
K. Kottmann turned into 3 - 0 without a problem.
The players of Hongkong now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
Ronnies managed to reduce the score to 3 - 1 as
D. Bosetti finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the defence.
With 38 minutes gone, Hongkong had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
L. Gontier did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out.
The coach of Hongkong was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 40 minutes,
P. Lefebvre came on for
D. Noculak.
3 - 1 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to Hongkong, who controlled the ball 71 percent of the time.
Hongkong managed to extend their lead to 4 - 1 when
F. Kanclerz cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Hongkong's
S. Fincken saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 69 minutes.
With 74 minutes played, Hongkong put themselves up 5 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
G. Proveniers, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Hongkong's
K. Kottmann had an excellent opportunity after 75 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
P. Lefebvre wanted to play on, but the Hongkong coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 80 minutes into the game by
A. Beconcini.
Ronnies showed their counterattack skill 81 minutes into the match by breaking through the middle, with
G. Godulyan scoring uncontested for 5 - 2.
Hongkong claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.
The most dominating Hongkong player was without a doubt
L. Gontier.
However,
A. Beconcini made a disastrous appearance.
G. Gunsch performed admirably for Ronnies.
On the other hand,
J. Dehlin's play was disheartening.
The match ends 5 - 2.
