previous 1/10 next 3/10  Canterbury 1 - 8 Lysdexic (377057956)

A scorching day at Canterbury Football Stadium, where 27200 spectators were in place for today's match. Terence Campbell was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ferruccio Vestuti and Titus Rosener. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this New South Wales derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Canterbury decided to use a 4-3-3 set up. Lineup: Griver - Wilshere, Anderson, Arnesen, Testoni - Ashley, Sotelo, Montano - Thorup, Erek, Gergel.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Lysdexic. They fielded: Pizzolato - Snethlage, Laloata, Armendáriz, Grivelakos - Barzotto, bin Dzulkarnain, Kumar Guha, Matera - Lidbury, Winther.

Canterbury used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. After 7 minutes, Lysdexic's D. Grivelakos made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. T. Lidbury increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 2. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Lysdexic lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. After 21 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed D. Grivelakos to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 3. The referee signalled a penalty 26 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. J. Armendáriz knocked it home to make the score 0 - 4. With 32 minutes played, Lysdexic put themselves up 0 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was T. Lidbury. 0 - 5 was the score after the first half. Lysdexic enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.

The Lysdexic players could smell victory in the air. A. Winther wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for C. Dunley after 46 minutes. With 49 minutes played, T. Lidbury nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. 50 minutes into the game, K. Erek finished off a Canterbury left wing counterattack, making the score 1 - 5. With 70 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed A. bin Dzulkarnain of Lysdexic to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 6. 71 minutes into the game, Lysdexic seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a solid level of organisation. Lysdexic's A. Barzotto was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box - C. Dunley managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 1 - 7 after 76 minutes. After 77 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave A. Barzotto a chance to increase the lead for Lysdexic, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 8. Canterbury players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as C. Montano tried lifting the ball over keeper S. Pizzolato. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. D. Grivelakos of Lysdexic received a yellow card after 81 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Lysdexic claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

Most important Canterbury player was K. Erek. L. Arnesen turned in a dismal performance, however. T. Lidbury performed admirably for Lysdexic. However, D. Grivelakos made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 8.
