Dark skies made the crowd of 42000 at St. Eunans Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Borisa Cilinsek was the appointed referee. Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! Ashleigh will go to battle in a 4-4-2 formation. The following players took the field: Power - Louvros, Calmar, McGloughlin, Nunes - Beaudouin, Solehmainen, Inglés, Mendes - Cox, Bomhard.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Secede decided to go with a 5-4-1 formation. Lineup: Glanvall - Enright, Mac an Bhreithiún, Genelin, McKenna, MacCarrghamhna - Orr, O'Callaghan, Tsukumo, Salgaro - Vīndedzis.

Today, Ashleigh's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks, taking advantage of their world class ability. The game had been going for 11 minutes when B. Mendes came in on the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to put away the 1 - 0 goal, giving Ashleigh the lead. The visitors got just what they'd been looking for after 12 minutes when M. McKenna received a pass from the left and buried it in the bottom corner, leveling it at 1 - 1. Ashleigh had to make a substitution after 20 minutes. R. Power apparently was hit by a thrown bottle of Schlitz by one of the opposing players' fans, and now reeks of blood and bad beer. While the coach remonstrated with the side official about the situation, J. Osagie finished his warmups and came on. B. Salgaro came close to putting the visiting team one up 28 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but J. Osagie managed to tip the ball over. 30 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Secede substitution. V. Stoyanov came on for C. O'Callaghan. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Secede, with an impressive 61 percent possession of the ball.

After 61 minutes, the Ashleigh had a quick word about their shape on the field and decided to try another approach. W. Mac an Bhreithiún will have Excedrin Headache number 5 after heading home the hard corner kick from V. Stoyanov after 65 minutes of play. I'm sure that making the score 1 - 2 will assuage him a bit, though. Ashleigh evened the match out with 66 minutes played after a world-class penalty shot by M. Inglés. This brought the scoreline to 2 - 2. With the clock showing 70 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. A. Vīndedzis looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for C. Mano, though he would have liked to continue. Ashleigh's D. Beaudouin sent an early cross that saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert K. Bomhard was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless netminder to make the score 3 - 2. Players in Ashleigh heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. Ashleigh's D. Beaudouin swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defense were able to clear the ball. The visitors almost came back with an equalizer 84 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but R. MacCarrghamhna didn't get enough power behind the attempted finish to seriously challenge the keeper. Coming through the middle C. Mano almost scored the equalizer for Secede after 88 minutes, but J. Osagie made an excellent save, tipping the awkward swerving shot past the post. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Secede would have 60 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Most important Ashleigh player was K. Bomhard. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by J. Osagie today. The most outstanding Secede player was without a doubt F. Orr. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because J. Glanvall seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The match ends 3 - 2.
