14-03-2012 09.30
The 613 fans in attendance at
Bluefield Road were roasting in the hot sun.
Jarosław Wolak was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Per Karlblad and
Ville Nuru.
A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Jackets.
They fielded: von Petzold - Ernstsen, Dialektos, Tziortzopoulos, Martínez de Herrero - Fröhlich, Ticozzi, Mandese, Suciu, Niedermühlbichler - Kleiber.
Schwechat decided to use a 5-4-1 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Rovira - Melena, Kopsokefalos, Krumer, Kailas, Larizza - Sârbu, Wagner, Rätzsch, Pöll - Adam.
For their match strategy, Schwechat had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
With 31 minutes played,
G. Ticozzi of Jackets fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
The referee signaled a penalty for the home side after 33 minutes, amid vocal protests from the visitors. Jackets fans erupted in celebration as
C. Kleiber rifled the ball into the the top corner. 1 - 0!
With the clock showing 38 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Schwechat resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
L. Sârbu in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
Having just won a lot of ground following a quick turn of play, Schwechat were given a free kick at a sharp angle. Rather than going for the direct shot, the defence was bypassed by a few sideways passes, giving
R. Rätzsch the chance to slip through at goal. Nice teamwork! And 1 - 1, 41 minutes into the game.
42 minutes in, Schwechat's
L. Sârbu received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
1 - 1 was the score after the first half.
Jackets had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.
59 minutes into the match, the speedy
R. Pöll easily outpaced
B. Ernstsen, chipped the keeper and made the score 1 - 2.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Schwechat coach let
S. Schnabl replace
R. Pöll after 60 minutes.
Schwechat almost scored after a counterattack 64 minutes into the match, but
R. Rätzsch took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net.
C. Tziortzopoulos found it hard to catch his breath today in the stifling heat.
With 67 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Schwechat resulted in a counterattack that set
H. Wagner free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save.
After 76 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Jackets was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options.
A counterattack by Schwechat after 81 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but
B. Adam, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off.
Jackets claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.
G. Ticozzi performed admirably for Jackets.
However,
M. Fröhlich made a disastrous appearance.
Schwechat's top performer was clearly
E. Krumer.
T. Larizza turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
