21-03-2012 12.00
Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 33540 to
Casablanca Stadium.
Valentijn Bieleveld was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jörn Duvstrand and
Magnus Danielsson.
The derby had been the talk of
Galicia all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
Casablanca decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Starters: Valdeliso - Bacchiocchi, Wardziak, Blum - Gorzawski, Hochstettler, Metelen, Torroja, Zappel - Wojtaś, Muriedas.
Atlético tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Hoyos - Picazo, Dapifer, Fux - Pisani, Ericsson, Lechner, Colmelo, Moya - Galparsoro, Meléndez.
Casablanca used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
4 minutes into the game,
A. Colmelo was a hair's breadth away from giving Atlético the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
P. Valdeliso saved the home team that time.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 13 minute mark, Casablanca's
L. Torroja hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Atlético's
S. Dapifer after 26 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead.
C. Muriedas charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equaliser for Casablanca, but the shot went well wide of the goal.
Atlético's
D. Pisani made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 32 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
Some fine movement on the left led to a Atlético goal after 34 minutes, making it 0 - 2.
N. Meléndez was noted down as the scorer.
With 35 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
S. Dapifer of Atlético to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 3.
Halftime score was 0 - 3.
Atlético claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
The coach of Atlético was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 60 minutes,
D. Seren came on for
D. Picazo.
61 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 4 as
N. Meléndez finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
The players of Atlético now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
D. Pisani left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 64 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
P. Hornowski was the replacement.
With 66 minutes on the clock,
Y. Blum surprised the guests' goalkeeper with a snappy free kick, which reduced their lead to 1 - 4.
After 74 minutes, Atlético's
P. Hornowski burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 5.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Atlético, with 54 percent of the ball.
D. Metelen performed admirably for Casablanca.
However,
C. Muriedas made a disastrous appearance.
Atlético's best player was
N. Meléndez.
On the other hand,
P. Hornowski's play was disheartening.
The match ends 1 - 5.
