Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 50000 to Galus Team Arena. Kornelis Houthoff was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marko Krasnik and Carsten Krause. Galus tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. They fielded: Protasiuk - Cieśla, Klamrowski - Sarzyński, Paeshuys, Krogulec, Trumiński, Rżysko - Jędrzejek, Beste, Czupryński.

Ruta had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Mamcarz - Jędrychowski, Muurimaa, Góral, Trzopek - Marruocco, Ciupitu, Robledo, Strachowski, Krychowiak - Zasiewski.

Galus took a creative approach on the field. 12 minutes into the match, Ruta nearly took the lead, as J. Jędrychowski broke through on the right. M. Protasiuk made the save, however. At 22 minutes played, J. Krogulec came in from the right with the intention of giving Galus the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Ruta's I. Ciupitu after 29 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. The referee showed Galus's L. Cieśla the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The visitors' C. Marruocco took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 32 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Ruta. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Ruta lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. A. Strachowski increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. A drive down the left side allowed I. Ciupitu to get in close and score another goal for Ruta after 38 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 4. Halftime score was 0 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to Ruta, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

A counterattack by Galus after 60 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but L. Cieśla, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off. The home crowd were delighted when İ. Beste scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 - 4. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! Some fine movement on the left led to a Ruta goal after 75 minutes, making it 1 - 5. H. Zasiewski was noted down as the scorer. With 80 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed H. Zasiewski of Ruta to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 6. Ruta claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

M. Protasiuk performed admirably for Galus. P. Rżysko on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Ruta player was without a doubt H. Zasiewski. A. Góral was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 6.
