The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 3305 had shown up at
Pancione Magic Arena for the match.
Daniel Gómez was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mikael Klintlund and
Gerlof Couwenberg.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Carnova.
They fielded: Dalio - Desgro, Cortinas, Borromeo, Montgomery - Mischi, Richardsen, Mignone - Alessandro, Bertinelli, Aristotele.
Volli-Guge had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Bogart - Castel, Untersee, Månsson - Senfft, Hottiger, Casolo, Sträuli, Bouyer - Marttala, Haubenwaller.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Carnova.
They were singing the praises of
M. Alessandro 12 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Carnova.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
X. Mignone from Carnova a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 14 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Carnova had no available replacements when
X. Mignone had to leave the game after 31 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short.
The visitors'
P. Bouyer was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 33 minutes.
36 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Carnova to take the lead after a good cross from the right found
M. Alessandro alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post.
The corner kick from
P. Månsson was powerfully met by the head of
G. Casolo to make the score 1 - 2.
It was 1 - 2 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Volli-Guge, with 52 percent of the ball.
L. Mischi charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equaliser for Carnova, but the shot went well wide of the goal.
With the scoreboard showing that 66 minutes had been played, Volli-Guge nearly put themselves up another goal after
P. Bouyer came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
After 68 minutes,
C. Montgomery made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 2 - 2.
Volli-Guge claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.
M. Alessandro performed admirably for Carnova.
However,
D. Dalio made a disastrous appearance.
Most important Volli-Guge player was
A. Castel.
On the other hand,
R. Untersee's play was disheartening.
The match ends 2 - 2.
