Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Roding Rovers Arena saw a crowd turnout of 64429.
Ticão Diniz Leal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Peter Davidsson and
Juan Oyarzún.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Roding.
The following players took the field: Rigby - Alderton, Leng, Sharples, Devitt, Leather - Guda, Milne, Smith - Scheding, Conceição.
Lightnings had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
They fielded: Silfwermo - Jangaziev, Karikko - Abu Hmaid, Weiss, Ráth, Maladenis, Campsor - Quaid, Cantoni, Grainger.
Roding clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
It was an obvious ambition of Lightnings to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Lightnings's
W. Weiss after 12 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead.
Lightnings came close to extending their lead as
C. Quaid delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 23 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.

P. Conceição narrowly missed the free kick attempt that was awarded as a result of a foul.
Roding almost scored after a swift counterattack 26 minutes into the game, but
S. Milne put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal.
W. Weiss increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 2.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Lightnings lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
M. Campsor got himself booked. The manager of Lightnings was not happy.
After 36 minutes Roding's
J. Alderton contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.

C. Quaid.
Coming in from the right, Roding had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 50 minutes, but
P. Conceição's attempt to finish was easily stopped.
Roding's counterattacks created a good chance for
S. Milne on the right after 60 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar.
After 67 minutes,
G. Cantoni sent the corner kick right to
N. Abu Hmaid who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 3!
85 minutes in, Roding's
S. Milne received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as

W. Silfwermo. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar.
J. Alderton of Roding received a yellow card after 87 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Lightnings enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Most important Roding player was
P. Conceição.
A. Sharples was a disappointment, however.
