STB 8 - 1 Hetman

The 3139 fans in attendance at Gloriam Arena were roasting in the hot sun. Jan Bauer was the appointed referee. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and STB formed up in a 2-5-3 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. They fielded: Schille-Protze - Styopin, Garrido - Filipenko, Waardenburg, Kurys, Kłodawski, Annenkov - Vackor, Dimitrov, Stevanella.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Hetman decided to go with a 2-5-3 formation. The following players took the field: Popescu - Racki, Kubiszewski - Graz, Szynalski, Utterborn, Alberich, Bernuy - Miadzielec, Le Bret, Fituch.

Hetman's game plan was to sit back and absorb the pressure, then use their weak ability to break on the counter whenever possible. The game had been going for 2 minutes when R. Annenkov came in on the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to put away the 1 - 0 goal, giving STB the lead. The clock read 7 minutes and things were deteriorating for the away team as STB scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for R. Annenkov. STB added another goal to their lead as R. Annenkov struck home for 3 - 0 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. One, two, three goals! That completed a hattrick for R. Annenkov. AH! AH! AH! After 15 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Hetman found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to solid. K. Vackor's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some beautiful tricks that fooled the defense. E. Kubiszewski of Hetman received a yellow card after 37 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, STB's K. Vackor got himself booked. STB put themselves up 4 - 0 when R. Annenkov broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. 41 minutes in, Hetman appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only inadequate. It was 4 - 0 at the break. STB were doing a good job holding on to the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

The Hetman coach might have gone through a whole marker putting the playbook up on the board, but it seemed to have worked, with the team regaining a solid organization for the second half. 47 minutes had passed when STB put themselves up 5 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to I. Garrido, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. STB's players now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. A beautiful, arcing corner kick from R. Annenkov found I. Dimitrov at the far post, soaring to meet the ball. The keeper is late and he's headed it in for 6 - 0! 56 minutes into the game, Hetman seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to passable. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their player J. Alberich scored to make it 6 - 1 after 66 minutes, following a good pass from the right. I. Garrido increased STB's lead to 7 - 1, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. 81 minutes into the game, Hetman seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a weak level of organization. STB managed to extend their lead to 8 - 1 when M. Kurys slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. STB set the tempo, maintaining 60 percent of possession.

STB's best player was K. Filipenko. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because O. Schille-Protze seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The most outstanding Hetman player was without a doubt R. Popescu. Speaking of stinking up the place, M. Bernuy sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 8 - 1.
