BPU 1 - 2 arcois

Dark skies made the crowd of 914 at Pythons Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Liviu Dinu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Stéphane Fère and José María Farpón. Gentlemen prefer blondes and BPU prefers a 4-5-1. Let's see how this plays out for them. Lineup: Bączyk - Hultblom, Angell, Riber, Gambaro - Žáčko, MacSween, Amstein, Narvarte, Quéguiner - Meléndez.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, arcois decided to go with a 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Nahit - Gaustad, Quiñones, Jandoubi - Pander, Weißburg, Różycki, Nachev, Débole - Seck, Schametz.

BPU were mostly trying to use their brilliant skill at attacking on the flanks. J. Débole seemed to be defying gravity as he elegantly headed in a goal for arcois after a corner kick that was nicely executed by H. Pander. That makes it 0 - 1. E. Quiñones was, after 24 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper M. Bączyk made the save. arcois already had the lead, so J. Débole probably won't be too disappointed that his speculative shot from the right 26 minutes in fell wide of the goal. After the ball was lifted in from the left, K. Weißburg was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 31 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. After 33 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as BPU found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to solid. It was 0 - 1 at the break. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that arcois would have 65 percent possession in this half was spot on!

During the break, BPU's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organization. 55 minutes into the game, arcois worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. The ball was in the back of the home team's net yet again after 59 minutes, but this time the referee called the goal back because K. Weißburg had knocked a member of the opposing team to the ground while the play occurred down the middle of the field. After 63 minutes of play, J. Meléndez evened things up for BPU with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 1 - 1. With the clock showing 75 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. P. Różycki looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for A. Morlotti, though he would have liked to continue. 76 minutes into the game, BPU had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to passable. arcois had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 79 minutes in when K. Schametz found himself alone with M. Bączyk who managed a block. H. Pander delivered a good free kick from an excellent position 80 minutes into the game, but luck wasn't on arcois's side this time and the ball went wide. The visiting H. Seck was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 83 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. BPU's A. MacSween attempted to equalize 87 minutes into the game, coming in from the right, but the ball hit the post and the defense dealt with the rebound easily. The forty-five minutes were dominated by arcois, with an impressive 68 percent possession of the ball.

Most important BPU player was J. Meléndez. Good thing M. Bączyk isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. A. Morlotti performed admirably for arcois. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by H. Seck today. The match ends 1 - 2.
