10-04-2012 21.00
It had rained all day, but 2134 hardy fans still made it out to
Altdorf Stadium.
Roar Bomholdt was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jay van Zwol and
Jan-Pieter Vastbinder.
Counts had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Nützel - Baldwin, Harman, Revell - Wells, Crocker, Smallman, Khan - Kelly, Chaykin, Fetecua.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for montegnacco.
They fielded: Mastellari - Parpinello, Pellecchia, Lupu, Fabricatore, Freestone - Scialla, Ughetto, La Barbera - Estevan, Malvezzi.
Counts displayed their ability to play creatively.
The Counts free kick 8 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
R. Smallman, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 0!
It was a bad day for the usually speedy
A. Khan. The mud seemed to slow him down.
B. Kelly unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Counts to 2 - 0 as
B. Kelly finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
After 23 minutes, Counts's
T. Harman fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
24 minutes into the game,
R. Estevan had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
G. Zagami.
A. Scialla became the new montegnacco captain.
With 36 minutes played, Counts put themselves up 3 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
A. Revell, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Cheers filled the stadium as
R. Smallman broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Counts.
The players of Counts now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
4 - 0 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Counts, with 77 percent of the ball.
A great save by keeper
L. Mastellari after 47 minutes kept the visitors in the game after
J. Fetecua struck from the left with a real cannonball.
Counts increased the lead as
B. Kelly struck to make the score 5 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like
V. Lupu.
A. Revell didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain.
The coach of Counts was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 80 minutes,
T. Pasquier came on for
B. Kelly.
Counts solidified their lead at the 86 minute mark, as
T. Pasquier dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 6 - 0.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Counts's
T. Baldwin increasing the lead to 7 - 0.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
T. Pasquier squirmed through their central defence after 88 minutes, increasing the lead to 8 - 0.
Counts enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 84 percent of possession.
Counts's best player was
T. Pasquier.
R. Smallman was a disappointment, however.
Most important montegnacco player was
G. Zagami.
On the other hand,
L. Mastellari's play was disheartening.
The match ends 8 - 0.
