Baqueró charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain. Chardonay mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 25 minutes, but J. Lisiewicz was unable to convert from short range. Numancia could have put themselves ahead after 26 minutes but J. Baeza missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. Good work by the Chardonay defensive line after 27 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found T. Gobet alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. After 35 minutes, J. Gojenechea came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Numancia the lead. There was concern in the stands when, at the 36 minute mark, Chardonay's M. Cicvarić hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. Baqueró wanted to play on, but the Numancia coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 82 minutes into the game by R. Fabra. After 89 minutes Numancia's A. Serradell limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. Chardonay had to manage with a reduced squad after 89 minutes, as M. Cicvarić got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action. F. Velicia was the new captain of Chardonay - handed the armband by the departing player. Due to a severely mistimed tackle, J. Nevado of Numancia spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. Numancia enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 73 percent of possession.
