previous 7/10 next 9/10  Azzuri 0 - 6 Moreno (378475487)

The 2234 fans in attendance at Azzuri Arena were roasting in the hot sun. Erin Collins was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Martijn Lekkerkerker and Todd Barrera. Azzuri decided to use a 5-5-0 set up. The following players had been chosen: Telles - Aro, Sadberk, Rajović, Borgner, Lacava - Travessa, Seiwald, Pizzimenti, Lager, Dołżycki -.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Moreno. The following players took the field: Sens - Tressider, Accogli, Shelach - González, Ficoń, Brass, Mas, Edri - Wyrzykowski, Haugrud.

For their match strategy, Azzuri had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Moreno tried to focus their attacks down the middle. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Moreno, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. After 11 minutes, Moreno's K. Haugrud made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. After 15 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for D. Wyrzykowski who increased Moreno's lead to 0 - 2. 28 minutes into the game, Azzuri seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a solid level of organisation. The visitors' K. Haugrud took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 36 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Moreno. Moreno's D. Wyrzykowski made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 37 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave D. Wyrzykowski from Moreno a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 38 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Moreno enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 88 percent of possession.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Azzuri was able to get his message across, and raised Azzuri's organisation to solid. After 66 minutes, Moreno's B. Ficoń burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4. The players of Moreno now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. 67 minutes in, Moreno's V. Accogli received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. 68 minutes into the game, Azzuri had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. Moreno players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. After 70 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave K. Haugrud a chance to increase the lead for Moreno, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 5. That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for K. Haugrud. Azzuri's counterattacks created a good chance for S. Pizzimenti on the right after 80 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. M. Shelach received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 84 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 6. The Moreno fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Moreno were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. 86 minutes into the match, M. Tressider came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. Moreno's J. González got himself booked for a foul. Azzuri were forced into a substitution as R. Sadberk couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing D. Cooreman to come in off the bench. I. Lacava was the new captain of Azzuri - handed the armband by the departing player. Possession in this half belonged to Moreno, who controlled the ball 89 percent of the time.

Azzuri's best player was J. Aro. S. Pizzimenti on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Moreno player was K. Haugrud. M. Sens was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 6.
