previous 9/10 next 1/10  Athletic 2 - 4 Rajons (378548920)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 3189 had shown up at Amaiur futbol-zelaia for the match. Piotrek Nawrocki was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ignacio García de Veas and Albin Lehnhoff. Athletic decided to use a 4-3-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Mossa - Bartolomej, Cuscó, Arcucelos, Vallverdú - Covin, Ballester, Gois - Tamés, Sandoval, Osbourne.

Rajons started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Kralikas - Kisworo, Myllylä, Skovgaard Hansen - Marakhovskiy, Adamovičs, Villota, Ivanovs, Gružāns - Haluka, Uztupis.

Athletic clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Rajons. The most controversial moment of the game was likely the penalty given after 2 minutes. Rajons's E. Haluka kept his concentration, despite the upset crowd, and calmly put the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 1. The goal to make it 0 - 2 was scored by G. Uztupis after 5 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by Rajons. With 8 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed E. Haluka of Rajons to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 3. Rajons mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 16 minutes, but A. Adamovičs was unable to convert from short range. It was 0 - 3 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Athletic, who controlled the ball 58 percent of the time.

Rajons's B. Kisworo was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 68 minutes. Athletic supporters cheered as good work down the right got the ball to E. Tamés who reduced the visitors' lead after 76 minutes to 1 - 3. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, P. Gois got himself booked. The manager of Athletic was not happy. 83 minutes into the match, Athletic's Á. Sandoval collected a ball sent down the right and put it in the back of the net, narrowing the score to 2 - 3. The corner kick from E. Haluka was powerfully met by the head of G. Uztupis to make the score 2 - 4. N. Rollo was called on to replace Athletic's E. Tamés after 86 minutes following a nasty collision. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Athletic, with 59 percent of the ball.

Athletic's top performer was clearly S. Cuscó. G. Mossa turned in a dismal performance, however. E. Haluka performed admirably for Rajons. A. Adamovičs on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 4.
