1879 spectators arrived at
Selford Stadium, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Guy Allison was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tomás Enrique Grosso and
Malcolm Thomas.
Redbull had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Marsellesa - Gaintzerain, Fernández Peñaranda, Pileri, Bozkurt - Madrón, Sanches, Amieva - Guimera, Spitter, Campos-Molinas.
Kontra started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Nenadović - Grugni, Hviid, Tullbeck - Lipták-Fegó, Frehmann, Nederhall, Groenewold, Diarena - Aicardi, Lindner.
Redbull were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 2 minutes allowed
O. Lindner to score for Kontra. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1.
The referee showed Kontra's
P. Aicardi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
J. Marsellesa of Redbull had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
E. Txara came in to finish the match.
After 20 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
P. Aicardi who increased Kontra's lead to 0 - 2.
23 minutes in, Kontra's
R. Frehmann received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
After 33 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
N. Diarena a chance to increase the lead for Kontra, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Kontra lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Kontra's
S. Grugni got himself booked for a foul.
After 37 minutes, Kontra's
A. Nederhall burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4.
It was 0 - 4 at the break.
Kontra claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.
52 minutes into the match Redbull's
A. Guimera viciously shoved another player from behind while going for a loose ball and was sent off the pitch with a red card.
Kontra's
A. Nederhall made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 54 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
The visitors'
C. Groenewold took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 55 minutes into the match. 0 - 5 for Kontra.
S. Tullbeck received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 63 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 6. The Kontra fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
A. Madrón got himself booked. The manager of Redbull was not happy.
After 80 minutes of game time,
P. Aicardi had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
E. Txara was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner.
84 minutes into the game, Redbull seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
poor level of organisation.
Kontra had most of the ball, with 64 percent of possession.
Redbull's top performer was clearly
B. Sanches.
Ö. Bozkurt turned in a dismal performance, however.
R. Frehmann performed admirably for Kontra.
On the other hand,
N. Diarena's play was disheartening.
The match ends 0 - 6.
