1-Kaiserlautern 3 - 4 Matorras (378796469)

A scorching day at FRITZ WALTER STADION, where 1566 spectators were in place for today's match. Andres Molina was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marko Graser and Anthony Barzasi. 1-Kaiserlautern started off with a 5-3-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Chopieta - Blanco, Michułka, Kiasi, Washbrook, Velecký - Escalante, Imaz, Østergaard - Urbani Ulivi, Argov.

A 5-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Matorras. Lineup: Azúa - Moon, Dolak, Beiersdorf, Fuentes, Sáenz Malo - Fedeghelli, Petruch, Lagos, Tomshøj - Rosamel.

For their match strategy, 1-Kaiserlautern had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Matorras were relying on their ability to counter-attack. Coming in from the right, 1-Kaiserlautern had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 17 minutes, but I. Argov's attempt to finish was easily stopped. With 27 minutes played, R. Dolak of Matorras fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. 1-Kaiserlautern made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left A. Imaz completely alone with keeper D. Azúa, who made a spectacular block. After 41 minutes, following yet another great corner, K. Fuentes's flick on at the near post reached U. Tomshøj, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Matorras, with 58 percent of the ball.

Azúa took over the role of being the Matorras captain. 1-Kaiserlautern's M. Urbani Ulivi was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 50 minutes. 55 minutes into the game, Matorras wanted to bring some new energy to their game. A. Rosamel gave C. Ríos a quick hug as he left the field. The referee showed 1-Kaiserlautern's L. Østergaard the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Matorras claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of extra time followed. After extra time, the game was still tied and a penalty shoot-out ensued.

Clearly nervous from the start, 1-Kaiserlautern's M. Michułka took a long run up, but could only blast the ball over the bar. The score remains 0 - 0. Matorras's M. Beiersdorf didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of A. Chopieta. The score remained 0 - 0. 1-Kaiserlautern's J. Escalante looked nervous even as he was putting the ball on the spot. He didn't take much of a run up, and his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. Oooh - how unlucky! Matorras's R. Dolak attempt hit the underside of the bar, but rebounded down into the grateful arms of A. Chopieta. The score stays 0 - 0. 1-Kaiserlautern's G. Washbrook looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 0 - 0. Matorras's A. Sáenz Malo coolly put the ball past A. Chopieta. 0 - 1. There aren't many players that have the cheek to take a penalty like that! 1-Kaiserlautern's D. Blanco showed he was one of them, as he made it 1 - 1. Oooh - how unlucky! Azúa didn't have a chance. 2 - 1. Matorras's L. Moon kept his cool as he faced down A. Chopieta. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 2 - 2. 1-Kaiserlautern's M. Velecký was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 3 - 2! Matorras's C. Ríos showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 3 - 3. Oooh - how unlucky! 1-Kaiserlautern's A. Imaz attempt hit the underside of the bar, but rebounded down into the grateful arms of D. Azúa. The score stays 3 - 3. Matorras's D. Azúa made no mistake. A. Chopieta didn't have a chance. 3 - 4. Most important 1-Kaiserlautern player was M. Velecký. However, J. Escalante made a disastrous appearance. Matorras's best player was C. Ríos. D.
