previous 4/4 next 2/4  Bangkok 3 - 6 skäggos (378801558)

It had rained all day, but 2695 hardy fans still made it out to WBangkok Arena. Charrel van Duijn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marcelo Caldas and Renzo Zubler. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Bangkok. The following players took the field: Thanaphaitoon - Boonsuwan, Wongkrai - Wandee, Piriyakuntorn, Jermaniš, Taweejaroen, Sirikamon - Fabiāns, Janprapadilok, Leeuwenberg.

skäggos started off with a 4-3-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Johansson - Etter, Pettersson, Daei, Sewale - Sahltorp, Vermeiren, Shischenko - Leeuwangh, Bengtsson, Granwald.

skäggos mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. V. Jermaniš caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 18 minutes. This gave Bangkok the 1 - 0 lead. Bangkok managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when N. Boonsuwan cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. skäggos reduced the lead after 26 minutes to 2 - 1 as T. Bengtsson easily chipped the ball past the home side's keeper after a dazzling play from the right. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave V. Fabiāns from Bangkok a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 33 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but B. Vermeiren showed great heart and had a good game. skäggos had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. After 40 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after S. Daei made it through the middle and struck home to make it 2 - 2. It was 2 - 2 at the break. Bangkok enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.

U. Granwald would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. C. Stensson entered the game for skäggos as the match clock showed 46 minutes. Bangkok took the lead 48 minutes in, as N. Sirikamon broke through on the left and put the 3 - 2 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. C. Stensson's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 64 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to T. Bengtsson who knocked it in for skäggos. 3 - 3! The most controversial moment of the game was likely the penalty given after 67 minutes. skäggos's H. Sewale kept his concentration, despite the upset crowd, and calmly put the ball past the keeper to make the score 3 - 4. The visitors' H. Sewale took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 68 minutes into the match. 3 - 5 for skäggos. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when N. Boonsuwan tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. R. Johansson was too alert for that! With 71 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of skäggos resulted in a counterattack that set S. Leeuwangh free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. Unsportsmanlike behaviour by V. Fabiāns rendered him his second booking of the match, and Bangkok had to finish the game with a reduced squad. The rain made it hard for players like S. Leeuwangh to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. C. Stensson slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. After 85 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave S. Leeuwangh a chance to increase the lead for skäggos, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 3 - 6. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by skäggos, with 51 percent of the ball.

Bangkok's top performer was clearly V. Jermaniš. P. Taweejaroen was a disappointment, however. S. Daei performed admirably for skäggos. On the other hand, U. Etter's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 6.
