It had rained all day, but 2891 hardy fans still made it out to
Olímpico de La Cisterna.
Luigi Righi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Valtteri Keskitalo and
Morris Clos.
Palestino started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Siengelo - Guarda, Acevedo, Otarola - Thomas, Magdahl, De Ferari, Antilef, Galarce - Felice, Renard.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Peinarol.
The following players had been chosen: Piacquadio - Ludueña, Franco, Zarzamendi, Latorre - Jubín, Warlop, Häni - Bernasconi, Pérez, Arevalo.
Palestino were determined to use their long shot ability.
It was obvious that the tactic of the day for Palestino was to go for long shots, but in order to score they have to do better than the shooting attempt from
J. Felice after 12 minutes, which was a total failure.
Palestino had a chance to take the lead after
J. Galarce's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 15 minutes.
I. Pérez was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace.
R. De Ferari caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 21 minutes. This gave Palestino the 1 - 0 lead.
Palestino managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when
J. Felice cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
G. Magdahl squirmed through their central defence after 34 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0.
Possession in this half belonged to Palestino, who controlled the ball 79 percent of the time.
J. Galarce should probably have put his team up another goal after 47 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
G. Piacquadio kept the visitors in the game.
A. Guarda had a fantastic opportunity to put Palestino up another goal 60 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
After 61 minutes Peinarol's
J. Warlop contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
Palestino's slick passing moves completely confused the defence after 70 minutes, but thanks to
G. Piacquadio's miraculous save from
G. Magdahl's long shot the score remained unchanged.
Palestino had to manage with a reduced squad after 71 minutes, as
J. Galarce got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action.
Peinarol were forced into a substitution as
G. Piacquadio couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
L. Festari to come in off the bench.
As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
I. Pérez took over the role of being the Peinarol captain.
After 74 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
R. Thomas might have resulted in another goal for Palestino. However,
L. Festari made a spectacular save.
Palestino enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.
Most important Palestino player was
R. De Ferari.
On the other hand,
J. Siengelo's play was disheartening.
Peinarol's best player was
I. Pérez.
L. Festari was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 3 - 0.
