After a fatal mistake from the away team's right side defence 39 minutes into the match, an alert K. Jortama bagged the ball for Onda, levelling the score to 1 - 1. Onda had a chance to take the lead after S. Raper's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 40 minutes. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why K. Kempski found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. Onda took the lead 44 minutes in, as T. Heinikorpi broke through on the left and put the 2 - 1 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Onda, with 70 percent of the ball.

Things were deteriorating for the away team as Onda scored another to make it 3 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for S. Kilpiäinen after 51 minutes. E. Olsen increased the lead for Onda to 4 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! By now, the players in Onda felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
