Clear skies welcomed the 3232 spectators who had made their way to
Morfeo Arena.
Raul Deaconescu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Manfred Sommer and
Dobromil Háva.
Akuve tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
They fielded: Parrillo - García-Velasco, Cepeda, Larralde - Jonsson, Bauçà, Grob, Elhorga, Buscemi - Carra, Ruibarbo.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Assault.
Starters: Hasselgren - Schipp, Bietigheim, Ferner, Joeden, Megede - Sitbon, Misimi, Friedrichroda - Majehrke, Braber.
D. Jonsson gave Akuve the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0
Assault's
A. Misimi left the field after 26 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
S. Pasma.
Akuve's
D. Cepeda saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 30 minutes.
M. Friedrichroda's lack of experience almost gave Akuve a goal after 34 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms.
A. Carra could have put Akuve up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 37 minutes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
Akuve enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.
T. Hasselgren was caught napping as
D. Cepeda lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms.
After 54 minutes, Akuve were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
J. García-Velasco did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
G. Buscemi from Akuve a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 69 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
After 76 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
S. Larralde might have resulted in another goal for Akuve. However,
T. Hasselgren made a spectacular save.
Akuve had no available replacements when
D. Jonsson had to leave the game after 82 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short.
Akuve had most of the ball, with 69 percent of possession.
T. Grob performed admirably for Akuve.
On the other hand,
J. Parrillo's play was disheartening.
Most important Assault player was
B. Ferner.
However,
S. Pasma made a disastrous appearance.
