Dark skies made the crowd of 947 at Atomic Fisk Bowl a little nervous, but the rain held off. Terry Finney was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Brix Geschwendtner and Fortunato Senzanonna. Atomic decided to use a 5-5-0 set up. Starters: Jones - Kuutamo, Havens, Breen, Harpegnies, Molina - McClure, Weller, Gomez, Wetzk, Gilley -.

Paraquats tactics involved an interesting 5-5-0 combination. Lineup: Huebner - Pogodin, Sheehan, Olalde, Hillman, Ewing - Mawe, van 't Hoog, Amaru, Milo, Ozon -.

The strategy for Atomic on this day was to use their ability to press. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Paraquats. At this time in the match, Atomic were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Paraquats's R. Pogodin got himself booked. It might be a while before the fans see Atomic's J. Kuutamo again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 24 minute mark. He was replaced by H. Unger. Atomic's T. McClure was shown a yellow card after 28 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Everyone knows P. Mawe is the man to mark on corner kicks, but 29 minutes in he got free of the defender and set a ball towards goal, which was saved by the keeper. Paraquats's ability to press all over the field paid off frequently. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. The statistics showed Paraquats in control of the ball, with 54 percent possession.

Paraquats pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a deadlock at times. With the clock showing 60 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. R. Pogodin looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for G. Stassijns, though he would have liked to continue. With 66 minutes played, the Atomic manager called F. Wetzk over to the sideline and told him to switch places with Y. Harpegnies. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signaled for a Paraquats substitution. J. Matos came on for B. Ewing. After 75 minutes, the Paraquats coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving E. Hillman off the field. E. Means took his place. The pressing tactics used by Paraquats were successful as the ball didn't make it out of the middle third very much. Paraquats set the tempo, maintaining 56 percent of possession.

As neither team was able to score a late winner, the teams took to the field again for extra time. The Paraquats coach adjusted their lineup after 91 minutes. P. van 't Hoog and I. Sheehan assumed each other's positions. As the match reached the 91 minute mark, Atomic decided to regroup. A. Jones gave J. Breen a little pat on the back as they changed positions on the pitch. The scores were still level, so the match had to be settled with penalties.

Atomic's R. Weller didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of T. Huebner. The score remained 0 - 0.
