previous 5/10 next 7/10  Villains 2 - 3 A.C.Ponte (379161050)

Clouds darkened the skies at Villa Park as 3030 spectators turned up for the match. Mats Colsjö was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mats Roders and Nick Goßler. Villains had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Hay - Ashworth, Karkov, Đức Thương, Mullane - Ferrando, Moral, Reardon, Wale - Waplington, Mulvaney.

A.C.Ponte started off with a 5-2-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Danovaro - Hupkens, Fusaro, Nemec-Grubelnig, Sarti, Caramaño - Savelbergh, Dajcz - Varis, Feßler, Garzón.

Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for A.C.Ponte. Villains took the lead 28 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as D. Reardon elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. The home team will be cursing A. Varis for weeks; he finished off a great pass from the left, knocking it past the keeper without a problem. The match was level at 1 - 1 after 30 minutes. 34 minutes in, A.C.Ponte's W. Feßler received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Villains fans were dismayed when it was apparent no substitutes remained after P. Moral's injury. A.C.Ponte almost scored after a swift counterattack 37 minutes into the game, but M. Fusaro put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. A.C.Ponte took the lead after 39 minutes making the score 1 - 2. M. Nemec-Grubelnig placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Villains, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

A.C.Ponte played a good counterattacking move down the left 66 minutes into the match, with J. Garzón finishing well for 1 - 3. The referee showed Villains's D. Reardon the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Villains's G. Mullane was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 72 minutes. Villains made it 2 - 3 as M. Waplington got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to V. Đức Thương who whipped a low drive in off the far post. Villains had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

Most important Villains player was M. Waplington. W. Hay on the other hand, had a terrible day. A.C.Ponte's top performer was clearly C. Danovaro. J. Garzón was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 3.
