previous 8/10 next 10/10  EU2012 1 - 6 Tobillos (379200421)

Clouds darkened the skies at EU Arena as 284 spectators turned up for the match. Luis Petersen-Aust was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Thomas Schuurman and Vilhelm Liljenell. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for EU2012. The following players had been chosen: Vallori - Cereceda, Soldevilla, Eizaga - Giancristofaro, Ove, Arévalo, Stoia, Arcuş - Mouteira, Săvoaia.

Tobillos tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Starters: Martínez Sanz - Xegúndez, Velasco Miranda, Serrano Rubiera - Fontecha, Ombreira, Pellicer, Benavent, de Cangas - Eguren, Parrotta.

The strategy for Tobillos was to use their ability to press. After 3 minutes, Tobillos put themselves up 0 - 1, as C. de Cangas finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. A drive down the left side allowed C. Benavent to get in close and score another goal for Tobillos after 5 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 2. After 13 minutes a very unfortunate collision in the penalty area led to EU2012's N. Eizaga being carried off the pitch and replaced by I. Vera. A well placed corner kick from V. Săvoaia was followed by S. Soldevilla's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for EU2012, the score now 1 - 2. M. Ombreira received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 25 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 3. The Tobillos fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The pressing tactics used by Tobillos were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. 1 - 3 was the halftime score. Tobillos enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 73 percent of possession.

After 47 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for F. Eguren who increased Tobillos's lead to 1 - 4. Confident in their lead, Tobillos's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. After 51 minutes, Tobillos sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached C. Benavent, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 5. At this time in the match, Tobillos were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. The referee showed Tobillos's C. de Cangas the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Tobillos increased their lead after 80 minutes when B. Parrotta broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 6, much to the home crowd's dismay. Tobillos had most of the ball, with 76 percent of possession.

Most important EU2012 player was V. Săvoaia. R. Vallori was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Tobillos player was without a doubt M. Ombreira. On the other hand, P. Velasco Miranda's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 6.
