previous 2/10 next 4/10  Rolls 4 - 3 United (379387558)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Toilet Bowl saw a crowd turnout of 3496. Marcell Prießnitz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Herminio Aristorena and Rodney de Campos. Rolls decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Mattis - Lusk, Byrd - Rzymek, Fattori, Receveur, Claassen, Ellsworth - Weathers, Landis, Mantere.

United had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Smith - Ţicleanu, Dumitrascu, Glover, Grozdanić - Johansson, Palombarini, Cook, Wąchalski - Wallis, Toifl.

United clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. 1 minutes into the game, United wanted to bring some new energy to their game. N. Wallis gave O. Poirier a quick hug as he left the field. After 1 minutes, the United coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving F. Toifl off the field. N. Isom took his place. Many thought C. Byrd ought to have been awarded a penalty 16 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around G. Smith after a determined run through the middle. The referee showed Rolls's P. Claassen the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Rolls took the lead 36 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as T. Mantere elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. 37 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as T. Mantere broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Rolls. After 38 minutes, D. Cook replied with a fantastic free kick and the ball went in off the bar. 2 - 1. 39 minutes in, Rolls's T. Rzymek received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Rolls's M. Fattori had an excellent opportunity after 40 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! It was 2 - 1 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Rolls, who controlled the ball 58 percent of the time.

With 61 minutes played, L. Landis could have brought this one home for Rolls as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. United earned themselves a free kick after a counterattack wasn't dealt with adequately by their opponents. D. Cook powered the shot in for 2 - 2. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, L. Landis scored for Rolls putting them ahead 3 - 2, after 66 minutes. United's P. Johansson left the field after 71 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was J. Vitek. J. Vitek made a quick rush after 75 minutes, but M. Fattori had no problems keeping up the pace and stopped the attack. After 76 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after D. Cook made it through the middle and struck home to make it 3 - 3. By then D. Cook had scored three goals - a hat trick! Rolls claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called. After 93 minutes, T. Mantere came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 4 - 3, giving Rolls the lead. That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for T. Mantere. This put an end to extra time, making Rolls the winners. The most dominating Rolls player was without a doubt T. Mantere. However, B. Mattis made a disastrous appearance. M. Ţicleanu performed admirably for United. G. Smith on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 3.
