The crowd of 453 turning up at
Tomix Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Pero Duvančić was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
José Luis Junco and
Brian Steen Risum.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Varese.
Lineup: Ortega - Cantarelli, Ruiz Moreno, Giostra, Segale - Jonsson, Ruscigno, Behrendt, Del Castello - Tavanti, Snider.
Snasti tactics involved an interesting 3-4-2 combination.
They fielded: Olagnon - Vešligaj, Gandola, Manor - Marcheselli, Litjens, Schink, Coscelli - Magnetti, Demollari.
It was an obvious ambition of Varese to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Many thought
Z. Snider ought to have been awarded a penalty 38 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
J. Olagnon after a determined run through the middle.
43 minutes in, Snasti appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
inadequate.
Slack defending gave Varese a chance to take the lead with 44 minutes played, but
D. Segale's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition.
The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit
A. Litjens just fine.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0.
Possession in this half belonged to Snasti, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.
The Snasti players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a
solid organisation when the game started again.
73 minutes into the game, Snasti had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
inadequate.
As the 75 minute mark approached, the Varese coach decided it was time for a substitution.
M. Tavanti reluctantly made way for
D. Rampinelli on the pitch.
Varese had to make a substitution after 80 minutes.
V. Ruscigno limped off the field and was replaced by
D. Cuva.
After 81 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Snasti found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
inadequate.
Snasti claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 63 percent.
The most dominating Varese player was without a doubt
Z. Snider.
R. Giostra turned in a dismal performance, however.
A. Litjens performed admirably for Snasti.
J. Olagnon was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 0.
