previous 7/10 next 9/10  Parabol 2 - 3 Yenerbahce (379522080)

Clouds darkened the skies at olinpiyat stadı as 125369 spectators turned up for the match. Sämi Hentsch was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bernard Kobus and Gheorghe Cojocaru. The match took place on neutral ground. Parabol decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Huse - Günalp, Nasri, Valdés - Brtek, Turchetti, Sonay, Ağırtan, Jarosiewicz - Fast Nielsen, Goranović.

Yenerbahce tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. The following players took the field: Ovvia - Serafini, Hurni - Nilsson, Tac, Baļķens, Borbás, Ramírez - Fanti, Çavdar, Alpman.

Parabol had a good opportunity to take the lead as I. Goranović came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of C. Ovvia. The guests took the lead 26 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in C. Fanti scoring to make it 0 - 1. 0 - 1 was the halftime score. Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.

After 46 minutes, Parabol switched S. Valdés with T. Nimni, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. After 67 minutes, Parabol sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached J. Fast Nielsen, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 1. Yenerbahce's J. Nilsson was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box - C. Fanti managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 1 - 2 after 73 minutes. C. Fanti wanted to play on, but the Yenerbahce coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 73 minutes into the game by A. van Gessel. The crowd roared in delight as C. Sonay finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Parabol 74 minutes into the match. 2 - 2. Parabol could have put themselves ahead after 79 minutes but T. Nimni missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. 2 - 3 was the score with 82 minutes played, after O. Hurni cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Yenerbahce. Possession in this half belonged to Yenerbahce, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

T. Nimni performed admirably for Parabol. A. Jarosiewicz was a disappointment, however. Yenerbahce's best player was Ç. Çavdar. On the other hand, M. Ramírez's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 3.
