30-05-2012 12.25
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 3088 had shown up at
Yol Stadium for the match.
Paweł Krzanowski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tomas Dahlerberg and
Otso Järviseutu.
Valls decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Sharf - Tichý, de Deus, Coppolino - Gheorghe, Šikić, Kastanidis, Vigo, Zuricaray - Berin, Para.
PORTO started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Sáez Íñiguez - Wargnier, Jakubička, Toma, Michalon - Passe, Annunziata, Grandhomme, Le Gall - Barnten, Chalal.
Valls tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
A. Michalon received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 21 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 27 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
F. Berin, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
The PORTO players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team.
33 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
Á. Para broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Valls.
PORTO's
A. Barnten was shown a yellow card after 41 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
It was 2 - 0 at the break.
Valls had most of the ball, with 81 percent of possession.
Valls were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Valls's
M. Tichý increasing the lead to 3 - 0.
The PORTO coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Valls to 4 - 0 as
M. Tichý finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
The players of Valls now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
S. Vigo left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 65 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
T. Lopez was the replacement.
Valls were given a gift! The ref dubiously awarded them a penalty 65 minutes into the match, which was neatly put away by
D. Zuricaray. 5 - 0 for the home side.
X. de Deus wanted to play on, but the Valls coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 70 minutes into the game by
C. Dicle.
The Valls captaincy was handed to
K. Kastanidis.
D. Šikić should probably have put his team up another goal after 71 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
R. Sáez Íñiguez kept the visitors in the game.
The score became 6 - 0 at 74 minutes into the game, when Valls were given a penalty which
D. Zuricaray blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance!
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Valls coach let
N. Stoilov replace
Á. Para after 75 minutes.
Possession in this half belonged to Valls, who controlled the ball 83 percent of the time.
Valls's best player was
N. Stoilov.
However,
D. Zuricaray made a disastrous appearance.
PORTO's top performer was clearly
A. Barnten.
A. Michalon on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 6 - 0.
