Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. nacional's Y. Dupont almost tied things up with 31 minutes played after breaking through on the right, but his shot deflected off the post. After the ball was lifted in from the left, J. Ståhlbeck was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 34 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. After 36 minutes of game time, J. Sorlin had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but V. Vermande was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. nacional's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 37 minutes gone, but F. Sabathier's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. nacional claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Y. Dupont didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. Brohus was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. L. Lobjois replaced him. R.
