previous 9/10 next 1/10  Sokol 0 - 3 Kinross (379582749)

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 2221 at Kačák Arena today. Jaromir Rand was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Tero Huittinen and Ben Foster. Sokol tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Starters: Lavorel - Rey León, Yunger, Wurm - Siikström, Lucas, Buonagura, Kautio, Babič - Tumpach, Werkhoven.

Kinross decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: Carvalho - Cortés, Carpentier, Di Nucci - Couval, Sharf, Angelov, Passariello, Candela - Noffsinger, Jáksó.

It was an obvious ambition of Sokol to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. 9 minutes into the game, Kinross's N. Couval missed an opportunity to score the leading goal from a penalty when he delivered the shot straight into the keeper's hands. Kinross took the lead 26 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. P. Passariello was the scorer. Kinross's I. Jáksó made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 29 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. N. Candela showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Kinross after 33 minutes to make the score 0 - 2. With 35 minutes played, Kinross put themselves up 0 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was S. Carpentier. By now, the players in Kinross felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Kinross, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.

N. Sharf was, after 58 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper D. Lavorel made the save. T. Kautio charged down the left and looked sure to score for Sokol 67 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide. 74 minutes into the game, Kinross worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. 78 minutes into the match, I. Jáksó came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Kinross, with 65 percent of the ball.

Sokol's top performer was clearly D. Yunger. P. Wurm turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Kinross player was N. Sharf. However, F. Carvalho made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 3.
