35048 fans braved the pouring rain at
Renato DallAra Alamos.
Teofil Szuścik was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Benedict Lofaro and
Gheorghe Brâncoveanu.
Simacota tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Wijnman - Skriver, Praud, Ruffini - Ramírez, Gorgass, Vanluchene, Jude - Caicedo, Caita, Pedraza.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for VILLANOS.
The following players took the field: Rasiak - Bolard, Nolf, Pedroso - Menashe, Wallin, Leimer, Vives, Van Gulck - Gerritsen, Şahabettin.
Simacota used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
VILLANOS seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
E. Şahabettin was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions.
The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when
N. Van Gulck was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 24 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead!
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
V. Caita, but the Simacota player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
N. Van Gulck got himself booked. The manager of VILLANOS was not happy.
A cross coming in on the right hand side left
M. Menashe alone in front of the goal after 38 minutes but his shot was woeful.
A. Wallin didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain.
Simacota's
M. Skriver was shown a yellow card after 41 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The home side's
D. Jude curled a free kick home after 44 minutes, putting Simacota ahead 2 - 0.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
VILLANOS enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
O. Ruffini squirmed through their central defence after 64 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0.
By now, the players in Simacota felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
N. Gorgass should probably have put his team up another goal after 65 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
S. Rasiak kept the visitors in the game.
The Simacota players could smell victory in the air.
M. Vanluchene wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
R. Iragui after 70 minutes.
M. Skriver wanted to play on, but the Simacota coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 71 minutes into the game by
E. Plebani.
The coach of Simacota was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 75 minutes,
F. Łoniewski came on for
O. Ruffini.
VILLANOS's right side looked dangerous after 79 minutes, as
W. Leimer broke through.
M. Wijnman continued to stifle them, however, as he made the save look easy.
Possession in this half belonged to VILLANOS, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.
Most important Simacota player was
N. Gorgass.
On the other hand,
D. Jude's play was disheartening.
The most dominating VILLANOS player was without a doubt
A. Wallin.
S. Rasiak on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 0.
