previous 1/6 next 3/6  Penha 0 - 5 Monte (379975548)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Arena VIP saw a crowd turnout of 619. Philippe Sanchez was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Manuel Amendoeira and Junaid Farooq. Penha started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Acosta - de Campos, Peretti, Bragança - Castaneda, Gandra, Jacarandá, Karpen, Luza - Curtis, Karabacak.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Monte. Lineup: Van Geel - Jurgiel, González, Passão, Malo Heredia - Mulargiu, Lehr, Sekulić, Pubussu - Leijten, Kempf.

It was an obvious ambition of Penha to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. After 4 minutes, Monte put themselves up 0 - 1, as G. Pubussu finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. 22 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 2 as X. Kempf finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Players in Penha heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. After 25 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave M. Lehr a chance to increase the lead for Monte, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. Monte enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 67 percent of possession.

49 minutes into the game, Monte seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a weak level of organisation. 58 minutes into the match, the speedy L. Mulargiu easily outpaced J. de Campos, chipped the keeper and made the score 0 - 4. Confident in their lead, Monte's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Monte increased their lead after 59 minutes when L. Mulargiu broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay. X. Kempf of Monte was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Monte came close to extending their lead as L. Mulargiu delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 70 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. X. Kempf dispatched a majestic long shot 77 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few metres. Monte's T. Jurgiel left the field after 83 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was A. Cuccovia. Monte claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.

C. Bragança performed admirably for Penha. On the other hand, J. Acosta's play was disheartening. The most dominating Monte player was without a doubt T. Leijten. A. Cuccovia was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 5.
