previous 7/10 next 9/10  Zvezda 1 - 5 Krivonog (380150844)

It had rained all day, but 12000 hardy fans still made it out to Marakana. Paolo Fellini was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Márton Bernát and Pierce Hechfellner. People from all over Celje had joined up for the derby. Zvezda started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. They fielded: Arh - Šusteršič, Belc, Skerlak, Prešern - Klander, Pustovrh, Bečaj, Lipušček - Selčan, Kocijan.

Krivonog had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Tomić - Raščan, Kapel, Kjuder, Dobre - Draganovič, Vrček, Klokočovnik, Anžej - Novinc, Patteri.

A mistake by the home side's central defence after 30 minutes allowed M. Patteri to score for Krivonog. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. F. Kapel looked like he could fly, as he rose high to head the ball. Unfortunately for Krivonog, the ball went just barely wide. I. Klokočovnik increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 2. A well placed corner kick from M. Šusteršič was followed by P. Prešern's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Zvezda, the score now 1 - 2. 44 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 3 as M. Patteri finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 3. Krivonog enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.

Krivonog increased their lead after 53 minutes when D. Dobre broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 4, much to the home crowd's dismay. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from G. Novinc after 55 minutes, and prevented Krivonog from going up another goal. After 62 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed G. Novinc to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 5. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Krivonog lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. R. Raščan slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. R. Anžej was, after 79 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper E. Arh made the save. The referee showed Zvezda's P. Prešern the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Due to a severely mistimed tackle, D. Vrček of Krivonog spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. Krivonog had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

Zvezda's best player was D. Bečaj. E. Arh turned in a dismal performance, however. R. Anžej performed admirably for Krivonog. On the other hand, D. Tomić's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 5.
