previous 7/10 next 9/10  Latovainio 0 - 9 Metsku (380297945)

12000 spectators arrived at FC Latovainio Stadium, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Bob Ströbele was the appointed referee with assistance provided by John Bailey and Félicien Dehan. Latovainio had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Starters: Siven - Näsänen, Vanhapiha, Riihilahti, Ruti - Salonpää, Vaelma, Vattulainen, Lahnakoski - Alm, Räsänen.

Metsku started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players took the field: Paappanen - Lemasle, Galeş - Mauroy, Krause, Semeniuc, Sáenz Díez, Zeynur - Szűcs, Grönstrand, Dementsov.

After 25 minutes, Metsku put themselves up 0 - 1, as E. Sáenz Díez finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. Some fine movement on the left led to a Metsku goal after 34 minutes, making it 0 - 2. A. Mauroy was noted down as the scorer. G. Szűcs's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 37 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to L. Grönstrand who knocked it in for Metsku. 0 - 3! After the ball was lifted in from the left, L. Grönstrand was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 39 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. After 39 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for K. Zeynur who increased Metsku's lead to 0 - 4. Confident in their lead, Metsku's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Some things can only be learned through experience, and S. Vanhapiha should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Metsku a goal with 40 minutes of the match played. G. Dementsov received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 42 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 5. The Metsku fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. It was 0 - 5 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Metsku, with 86 percent of the ball.

L. Grönstrand left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. A. Formica was the replacement. After 51 minutes of game time, K. Zeynur had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but N. Siven was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. After 55 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave A. Mauroy a chance to increase the lead for Metsku, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 6. The home crowd was not impressed when T. Galeş came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 57 minutes. Metsku were now up 0 - 7. After 68 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed G. Dementsov to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 8. Metsku's G. Dementsov was shown a yellow card after 70 minutes for slicing down an opponent. With 76 minutes played, Metsku put themselves up 0 - 9 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was A. Semeniuc. The Metsku players could smell victory in the air. K. Krause wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for S. Saville after 81 minutes. The coach of Metsku was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 81 minutes, J. Leguizamón came on for E. Sáenz Díez. After 83 minutes, Latovainio's A. Vaelma fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Metsku enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 92 percent of possession.

Most important Latovainio player was T. Räsänen. R. Riihilahti turned in a dismal performance, however. Metsku's top performer was clearly A. Formica. On the other hand, G. Szűcs's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 9.
