9668 spectators had found their way to
Estádio Universitário, despite the heavy rain.
Lorne Wass was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Hasan Bayıldı and
Demitrius Weinbach.
Coimbra decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Cabanillas - Rautenberg, Tessarin, van der Feen - Nikopolidis, Kobierzyński, da Silva, Pace, Dausà - Lonien, Walter-Offenbach.
Doomed had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Rednic - Marques Alves, Soares Azevedo, Figueiredo Vieira - Waldburger, Teixeira, Dalmolin, Leandres, de Sousa - Peixoto, Abreu Pereira.
Coimbra saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
Doomed were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
5 minutes in, the referee awarded Coimbra a penalty.
B. Kobierzyński coolly slotted it home for a 1 - 0 lead.
V. Pace increased the lead for Coimbra to 2 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
With 27 minutes played,
R. Leandres of Doomed fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
Coimbra managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when
B. Kobierzyński cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Doomed fought on and, after 34 minutes,
F. Abreu Pereira was able to reduce the deficit to 3 - 1 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with an incredibly clever chip.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Coimbra scored another to make it 4 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
O. Walter-Offenbach after 35 minutes.
After this, you could see that the players of Coimbra were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
F. Nikopolidis could have increased the lead after 37 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
Doomed's
F. de Sousa was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 38 minutes.
I. Peixoto of Doomed was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
It was 4 - 1 at the break.
Possession in this half belonged to Coimbra, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.
Coming from the right,
V. Pace almost managed to score another goal for Coimbra, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper.
A questionable free kick call just outside the home side's penalty area gave Doomed a chance at reducing the score 75 minutes into the match. In the end, the ball went wide.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
J. Soares Azevedo got himself booked. The manager of Doomed was not happy.
Coimbra put themselves up 5 - 1 when
D. van der Feen broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 82 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
R. Leandres completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side's keeper.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Coimbra, with 60 percent of the ball.
Coimbra's top performer was clearly
B. Kobierzyński.
However,
D. van der Feen made a disastrous appearance.
The most dominating Doomed player was without a doubt
F. Dalmolin.
L. Teixeira on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 5 - 1.
