Clear skies welcomed the 15200 spectators who had made their way to
ThieuGia Arena.
Szymon Maćkowiak was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Markus Zumkehr and
Frédéric Mazuel.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for ThieuGiaFC.
The following players took the field: Momirović - Pajuniemi, La Rotta, Fuglsig, Reithmayer - Wieland, Baldini, Grégoire, Fanopoulos - Endrizzi, Hiệp.
Phong started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
Lineup: Phúc Thăng - Khuyến, Celis, Vercesi, Văn Du - Bello, Văn Nhỉ, El Rifai, Beerta, Pilotto - Klęczar.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Phong.
ThieuGiaFC broke through on the left 2 minutes into the game, with
C. Grégoire firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead.
The referee showed ThieuGiaFC's
E. Reithmayer the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
After 21 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
B. Wieland might have resulted in another goal for ThieuGiaFC. However,
N. Phúc Thăng made a spectacular save.
With 29 minutes played,
S. Pilotto of Phong fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
The visitors'
E. Klęczar was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 32 minutes.
35 minutes into the game,
S. Pilotto had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
1 - 1 was the score after the first half.
Phong had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
54 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
E. Vercesi, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 62 minutes into the match, and
I. El Rifai wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 1 - 2 for the visitors.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
N. Văn Nhỉ got himself booked. The manager of Phong was not happy.
N. Văn Nhỉ wanted to play on, but the Phong coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 80 minutes into the game by
B. Ploss.
Phong came close to extending their lead as
B. Văn Du delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 86 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
After 87 minutes ThieuGiaFC's
A. Fuglsig limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Phong, with 56 percent of the ball.
Đ. Hiệp performed admirably for ThieuGiaFC.
E. Reithmayer turned in a dismal performance, however.
Most important Phong player was
E. Klęczar.
However,
N. Phúc Thăng made a disastrous appearance.
