Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 32212 to Strawberry Field. Rene Danninger was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Cristian 'Il Cattivo' Razzi and Manuel García. Rubber made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left W. McPhee completely alone with keeper J. Birgersson, who made a spectacular block. R. Villanueva was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a Milano counterattack from the left after 34 minutes. His neat finish made the score 0 - 1. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Rubber enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.

After 59 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed R. Villanueva to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. Rubber needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 77 minutes M. Cosini made way for B. Aschieri. After 77 minutes L. Salerno made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to R. Vandewalle the opportunity the player had been hoping for. T. Enevoldsen reluctantly left the field. With 82 minutes played, the Rubber coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. V.
