previous 3/4 next 1/4  YOGYAKARTA 3 - 3 United (380766869)

The 1580 spectators at PSIM YOGYAKARTA Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Raúl Alberto Arcaya was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Espen Kristiansen and Cornils Eenstek. YOGYAKARTA started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Wabia - Hermansyah, Polii, Simbolon, Santiko - Guiterez, Gunawan, Aradyka, Haviludin - Lesy, Usman.

United decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. Lineup: Ranggalawe - Rauf, Kristiawan, Gultom, Yuana - Harianto, Fatah, Tutupoli, Ramli - Vedhayanto, Yani.

After 20 minutes, United put themselves up 0 - 1, as O. Gultom finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. After a fatal mistake from the away team's right side defence 27 minutes into the match, an alert U. Santiko bagged the ball for YOGYAKARTA, levelling the score to 1 - 1. A. Supeno was called on to replace YOGYAKARTA's N. Haviludin after 36 minutes following a nasty collision. After 39 minutes, the home side was awarded a penalty. The visitors protested wildly but the referee was adamant. B. Hermansyah easily put the ball away to give the lead to YOGYAKARTA. 2 - 1 Halftime score was 2 - 1. YOGYAKARTA claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Usually a powerful player on the field, Y. Lesy looked kind of pale and tired under the hot sun. Things were deteriorating for the away team as YOGYAKARTA scored another to make it 3 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for K. Gunawan after 67 minutes. United were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 68 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to C. Vedhayanto, who smashed it home to make the score 3 - 2. YOGYAKARTA's Y. Lesy left the field after 77 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was A. Atmanegara. United tied it all up, 78 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by P. Kristiawan, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 3 - 3. 81 minutes into the game, C. Vedhayanto had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. There was concern in the stands when, at the 84 minute mark, United's P. Kristiawan hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. United had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 86 minutes in when F. Yani came up alone against T. Wabia who managed a block. YOGYAKARTA had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

YOGYAKARTA's best player was A. Supeno. T. Wabia was a disappointment, however. United's top performer was clearly F. Yani. On the other hand, T. Fatah's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 3.
