24349 spectators arrived at
F.C. Micalaca Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Ilias Andronikidis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
James Laudi and
Iuliu Mitu.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Micalaca.
Starters: Rotellar - Cristescu, Sommavilla, Chirită - Vanderstraeten, Murth, Păun, Kvas, Jacquot - Świrszcz, D'Auria.
Safety decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
They fielded: Fomichev - Vingård, Rodr, Carradori, Savu - Thanh An, Bulgăr, Ion, Bontaş, Tănase - Chudnovskiy.
Safety clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
Safety's
A. Chudnovskiy managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 5 minutes. 0 - 1.
As
B. Bontaş had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Safety player a red card without batting an eyelid.
In a fantastic display of determination, Micalaca's
D. Cristescu forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down.
T. Vingård of Safety took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 32 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2.
C. Savu finished off the counterattack of Safety from the left rather easily, making the score 0 - 3.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Safety lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Safety's
A. Ion had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 35 minutes having been played.
C. Popescu was the replacement.
Halftime score was 0 - 3.
Micalaca enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
After 53 minutes, a counter attack by Micalaca was converted into a decent free kick opportunity. However, the indirect free kick routine was easily anticipated by the defenders. A textbook example of how to defend a free kick - the attackers were left with few viable options.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 56 minute mark, Safety's
N. Thanh An hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
A penalty was awarded after 59 minutes, and
A. Chudnovskiy made the most of his chance to put Safety up by another goal. 0 - 4 for the visitors.
Having just won a lot of ground following a quick turn of play, Safety were given a free kick at a sharp angle. Rather than going for the direct shot, the defence was bypassed by a few sideways passes, giving
C. Savu the chance to slip through at goal. Nice teamwork! And 0 - 5, 67 minutes into the game.
Possession in this half belonged to Micalaca, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
Micalaca's top performer was clearly
D. Cristescu.
Ó. Rotellar was a disappointment, however.
Most important Safety player was
N. Thanh An.
C. Savu turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 5.
