previous 2/10 next 4/10  Gigel 1 - 3 STEAUA Q (380785704)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Stadionu saw a crowd turnout of 28184. Tjebbe Fehr was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jozef Siheľa and Bengt Andersson. Gigel had chosen a strategic 2-5-2 formation. They fielded: Tomuţa - Bult, Balasch - Carcel, Sârbu, Patrichi, Ortega Flores, Ardeleanu - Gheorghe, Hägerfeldt.

STEAUA Q tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Ibatici - Domján, Nieuwenweg, Ohmsen - Sordyl, van der Kooij, Carrere de Abense, Szilágyi, Storhas - Faria, Sommerseth.

The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to P. Sârbu, but the Gigel player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! 29 minutes into the game, Gigel had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to poor. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, S. Szilágyi got himself booked. The manager of STEAUA Q was not happy. Gigel's J. Carcel was shown a yellow card after 41 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Unfortunately for STEAUA Q, R. Nieuwenweg was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. D. Hodinius replaced him. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Gigel had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Gigel had passable organisation. The bench was restless, and with 50 minutes passed STEAUA Q's coach gave F. Kikin the opportunity the player had been hoping for. H. Sordyl reluctantly left the field. STEAUA Q levelled the score after 75 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as J. van der Kooij struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked. 81 minutes into the game, Gigel seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to inadequate. G. Domján was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a STEAUA Q counterattack from the left after 83 minutes. His neat finish made the score 1 - 2. J. Carrere de Abense increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 1 - 3. Gigel claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

The most dominating Gigel player was without a doubt E. Ortega Flores. However, E. Bult made a disastrous appearance. STEAUA Q's top performer was clearly H. Storhas. On the other hand, D. Hodinius's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 3.
