Ersan Altun was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Juan Pablo Gave and
Eleuterio Salvador Escuder.
Olimpia decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
They fielded: Ene - Campiglia, Noronha, Varjas, Hasse - Dănilă, Lupescu, Irlius, Medina Torres - Ağaç, Pânzaru.
Tg-Jiu started off with a 2-5-3 lineup.
The following players took the field: Baratta - Gil, De Sario - Dincă, Rogeon, Sumberg, Sultz, Pozzoni - Sairinen, Moeschinger, Perucci.
Olimpia were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
Tg-Jiu clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
Olimpia broke through on the left 17 minutes into the game, with
M. Dănilă firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
C. Rogeon from Tg-Jiu a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 26 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Ø. Sumberg came close to levelling the score 27 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post.
Olimpia's
F. Varjas got himself booked for a foul.
Tg-Jiu were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
Tg-Jiu tied it all up, 35 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
G. Moeschinger, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 1 - 1.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
L. Noronha got himself booked. The manager of Olimpia was not happy.
Olimpia took the lead after 38 minutes as a result of
U. Ağaç's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 2 - 1.
The referee showed Olimpia's
B. Lupescu the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Tg-Jiu, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity.
42 minutes into the game Tg-Jiu's
K. Sultz found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 2 - 2.
It was 2 - 2 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Tg-Jiu, with 58 percent of the ball.
After 54 minutes, the Olimpia coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
S. Pânzaru off the field.
N. Rasborg took his place.
L. Ene looked great 56 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
A. Sairinen.
Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 67 minutes into the match left Tg-Jiu's
G. Moeschinger completely free to score. 2 - 3 for the visitors.
The crowd was on its feet 73 minutes into the match, as Olimpia's
N. Rasborg found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 3 - 3 equaliser.
The terraces were silenced after 74 minutes when Tg-Jiu's
G. Moeschinger put the guests ahead 3 - 4, following an attack on the right.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
G. Moeschinger.
Possession in this half belonged to Tg-Jiu, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.
U. Ağaç performed admirably for Olimpia.
L. Ene was a disappointment, however.
Tg-Jiu's best player was
C. Rogeon.
K. Sultz on the other hand, had a terrible day.
