VaFrek immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents. 0 - 1 was the score with 5 minutes played, after S. Mclean cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for VaFrek. Steaua's E. Hofinger was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 12 minutes. 15 minutes in, Steaua appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only inadequate. VaFrek's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. The visitors' C. Briner took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 25 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for VaFrek. After this, you could see that the players of VaFrek were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. A. Guerreiro Nunes's lack of experience almost gave VaFrek a goal after 31 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. Against a lesser team, VaFrek could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 37 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by VaFrek, with 70 percent of the ball.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Steaua was able to get his message across, and raised Steaua's organisation to solid. S. Alfano of VaFrek took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 56 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 3. A drive down the left side allowed Z. Günal to get in close and score another goal for VaFrek after 60 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 4. 65 minutes into the match, S. Alfano came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The sunny day didn't make things easy for G. Bruneau who didn't seem his usual powerful self on the pitch. The referee signalled a penalty 75 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. S. Alfano knocked it home to make the score 0 - 5. VaFrek's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. S. Mclean wanted to play on, but the VaFrek coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 85 minutes into the game by R. Livezeanu. Possession in this half belonged to VaFrek, who controlled the ball 67 percent of the time.

Most important Steaua player was R. Marcus. However, C. Guillén made a disastrous appearance. M. Jalovaara performed admirably for VaFrek. R. Livezeanu turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 5.
