A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 12000 to
Groapa.
Toni Mattila was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Roberto Pozzoni and
Richart Schmidl.
elfs had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
They fielded: Bădălău - Manu, Cochisă, Cristea, Ghiugan - Tripa, Iordăchescu, Vuici, Hebriştean - Mocan, Ardai.
Dragons started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Starters: Dulca - Sârbu, Sinyavskiy, Beşkardeş - Paltto, Sălăgean, Sanchez, Tuboly, Duquesnoy - Axente, Steinhauser.
Dragons were clearly looking ahead to the next match rather than focusing on the one at hand.
0 - 1 was the score with 3 minutes played, after
C. Beşkardeş cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Dragons.
F. Ardai's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence.
With 16 minutes played, Dragons's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
P. Sanchez he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 0 - 2.
Dragons increased their lead after 23 minutes when
G. Axente broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
After 25 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
M. Duquesnoy who increased Dragons's lead to 0 - 4.
After 28 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
G. Axente a chance to increase the lead for Dragons, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 5.
The players of Dragons now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
0 - 5 was the score after the first half.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Dragons, with 83 percent of the ball.
Ş. Sârbu wanted to play on, but the Dragons coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 50 minutes into the game by
G. Kuritár.
G. Kuritár was the new captain of Dragons - handed the armband by the departing player.
The visitors'
Ş. Sălăgean took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 53 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Dragons.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Dragons coach let
R. Savu replace
G. Axente after 55 minutes.
L. Steinhauser of Dragons took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 55 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 7.
M. Manu of elfs received a yellow card after 60 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
N. Sinyavskiy increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 8.
N. Sinyavskiy received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 72 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 9. The Dragons fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
As usual,
R. Savu tried to use his strength and hard work for the benefit of the team, but the heat hit him hard and he couldn't keep pace at all.
K. Paltto found it hard to catch his breath today in the stifling heat.
The home crowd was not impressed when
R. Savu came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 77 minutes. Dragons were now up 0 - 10.
Dragons enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 87 percent of possession.
Most important elfs player was
F. Ardai.
A. Bădălău on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Dragons's best player was
M. Duquesnoy.
On the other hand,
N. Dulca's play was disheartening.
