previous 2/10 next 4/10  STEAUA 0 - 2 Aldershot (380892874)

Dark skies made the crowd of 17975 at ghencea a little nervous, but the rain held off. Wojciech Wiechciński was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Adam MacLaverty and Grigory Zadornov. STEAUA started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Mazenauer - Kisling, Reif, Delbono - Arruda Jr., Lucas-Schultz, Pletzer, Puig, Ivanov - Rot, Magariños Blanco.

Aldershot decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Lücke - Laufer, Bica, Solomon - Wirschun, Otvoş, Bíró, Pleşca, Ioniţă - Jové, Nötzli.

Pressing was the tactic of the day for STEAUA. Today, Aldershot's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. STEAUA's B. Reif had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 6 minutes having been played. O. Corujan was the replacement. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 7 minutes into the match left Aldershot's P. Wirschun completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors. 29 minutes in, Aldershot's P. Wirschun received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A loud groan was heard from the fans of STEAUA, as P. Kisling left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. R. Skowera took his place on the field. Aldershot increased the lead to 0 - 2 as L. Nötzli scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in near the top left corner. Aldershot had to make a substitution after 32 minutes. I. Otvoş limped off the field and was replaced by I. Bobocel. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. STEAUA enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

STEAUA pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. With the scoreboard showing that 54 minutes had been played, Aldershot nearly put themselves up another goal after L. Nötzli came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. The visitors almost increased their lead after 64 minutes when a sweetly hit free kick looked like it was heading for the top corner. However the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it, sending it over the bar. The home crowd cheered when, after 71 minutes, M. Bíró's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. The coach of Aldershot was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 75 minutes, C. Nan came on for J. Jové. P. Wirschun left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 77 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. Z. Varga was the replacement. STEAUA had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

STEAUA's top performer was clearly V. Lucas-Schultz. O. Corujan turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Aldershot player was M. Bíró. R. Ioniţă was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 2.
