The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 6855 had shown up at Ciucas ESA Arena for the match. Zaki Ibn-Faisal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ole Streng and Ido Warnink. Gavril of Ciucas received a yellow card after 23 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. With 27 minutes played, Legiunea put themselves up 0 - 2 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was C. Borz. The home crowd were delighted when S. Luparu scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the score 1 - 2. But did he use his hand? That'll be one for the pundits to talk about after the game, that's for sure! The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Legiunea, with 60 percent of the ball.

B. Foriş dispatched a majestic long shot 58 minutes into the match, but missed the goal by a few metres. After the ball was lifted in from the left, A. Boţa was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 75 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration. 79 minutes in, Legiunea's A. Turea received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A drive down the left side allowed A. Sâmpetru to get in close and score another goal for Legiunea after 84 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Legiunea, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
