Due to an all-day shower, 41859 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
Laimes meklētāji.
Carl Reckow was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Micky Bashari and
Per Säf.
Selonia decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Tenberge - Pyleu, Ķikusts, Jēkabsons, Maslov - Zommers, Kreskas, Suni, Diebelis, Jansons - Krūmiņš.
Beasty tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Lanckmans - Nilsson, Avenarius, Varvashenia, Maslennikov - Kiselev, Brown, Nagibins, Stoma - Villemain, Guerrero.
P. Varvashenia, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 3 minutes allowed
V. Guerrero to score for Beasty. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1.
The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like
V. Guerrero.
Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Selonia, but
A. Krūmiņš's shot went over the bar.
After 34 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
P. Villemain who increased Beasty's lead to 0 - 2.
Selonia's
I. Zommers got himself booked for a foul.
Selonia were awarded a penalty 39 minutes into the match and
N. Kreskas fired the ball into the net to make the score 1 - 2.
U. Stoma came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
M. Tenberge but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
Halftime score was 1 - 2.
Beasty had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.
Beasty's
P. Villemain made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 60 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
The corner kick from
N. Kreskas was powerfully met by the head of
U. Jansons to make the score 2 - 2.
Down the middle came
P. Nagibins, making a fantastic play that nearly had Beasty take the lead after 68 minutes, but
M. Tenberge preserved the tie.
Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 77 minutes into the match left Beasty's
P. Nagibins completely free to score. 2 - 3 for the visitors.
Beasty claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
The most dominating Selonia player was without a doubt
A. Krūmiņš.
I. Maslov on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Beasty's top performer was clearly
E. Brown.
E. Maslennikov was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 2 - 3.
