previous 4/10 next 6/10  Hamsters 3 - 4 CIEMS" (381505544)

49555 spectators had come to Hamsteru Pagalms this cloudy day. Mozė Kryštopanis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Johnny Cash and Joerg Khreninger-Guggenberger. Hamsters decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. They fielded: Harpman - Cuhaven, Zervoulakis, Schwalbach, Antalovits, Zaps - van der Heyden, Enītis, Zurov, Maroto - Chinellato.

CIEMS" started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players took the field: Coronado - Živić , Popov - Bozhilov, Paschek, Inclimona, Møller, Tomlinson - Bild, Andor, Jakuczun.

CIEMS" tried to focus their attacks down the middle. CIEMS" took the lead after 8 minutes making the score 0 - 1. S. Tomlinson placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. With the scoreboard showing that 29 minutes had been played, CIEMS" nearly put themselves up another goal after S. Bild came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. With the clock showing 30 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Hamsters resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by A. Maroto in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. 31 minutes into the match, Hamsters's D. van der Heyden maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 1 - 1. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Hamsters had most of the ball, with 51 percent of possession.

As the 50 minute mark approached, the CIEMS" coach decided it was time for a substitution. K. Bozhilov reluctantly made way for M. Milanov on the pitch. D. van der Heyden would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. S. Liepiņš entered the game for Hamsters as the match clock showed 50 minutes. After 55 minutes, the CIEMS" coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving P. Inclimona off the field. A. Burks took his place. The corner kick from A. Maroto was powerfully met by the head of S. Liepiņš to make the score 2 - 1. Hamsters increased the lead as A. Maroto struck to make the score 3 - 1 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The referee showed Hamsters's M. Chinellato the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. A lack of experience caused A. Zervoulakis to make a difficult dribble close to dangerous opponent S. Bild of CIEMS", who took the opportunity to score making it 3 - 2. After 72 minutes, CIEMS" switched J. Jakuczun with P. Dinvietis, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. With 76 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after S. Bild came through the middle, but his kick went wide. After 77 minutes, CIEMS" sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached A. Burks, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 3 - 3. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave V. Zurov from Hamsters a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 79 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Central attacks were the recipe of the day for CIEMS", as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. The visiting I. Paschek was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 80 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 3 - 4 was the score. S. Tomlinson was, after 82 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper T. Harpman made the save. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Hamsters, with 51 percent of the ball.

The most dominating Hamsters player was without a doubt G. Enītis. On the other hand, A. Zervoulakis's play was disheartening. CIEMS"'s best player was Z. Andor. M. Milanov was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 4.
