previous 2/4 next 4/4  MKL75 4 - 1 Konig (381507615)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 56034 had shown up at KUIVIŽI for the match. Edmas Golbenas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Martial Bremond and Olof Josefsson. MKL75 started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: Koch - Araújo, Johnson, Scharfenberg - Black, Kazemian, Gallagher, Chipende, Gigon - Schmid-Hauser, Enula.

Konig had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation. Lineup: Lebedenko - Veckalniņš, Zandbergs, Mazanjuk, Guks - Eglītis, Brikmanis, Bertalsons - Pavilons, Vecvīrs, Reņģe.

Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Konig. A foul called during a Konig counterattack resulted in a great chance to score, but V. Pavilons's shot rattled off the post. After 9 minutes, B. Kazemian came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving MKL75 the lead. MKL75's H. Enula had an excellent opportunity after 15 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! 30 minutes into the match, A. Schmid-Hauser could have extended the lead, but his powerful free kick went just over the bar. Konig's V. Eglītis was shown a yellow card after 33 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 35 minutes in, Konig's R. Veckalniņš received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. MKL75's D. Gallagher placed the ball right at his teammate's feet after a corner, but P. Johnson couldn't finish. The home side's N. Black came close to extending the lead 40 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but S. Lebedenko managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. Konig's V. Eglītis left the field after 41 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was K. Birkenšteins. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. MKL75 had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.

Always quick and a menace to his opponents, T. Gigon was very close to getting through after 54 minutes, but he could only put the ball into the keeper's arms. T. Gigon should probably have put his team up another goal after 56 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by S. Lebedenko kept the visitors in the game. Konig were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 57 minutes, A. Vecvīrs swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 1 - 1. D. Gallagher would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. T. Mérei entered the game for MKL75 as the match clock showed 60 minutes. After 61 minutes, the MKL75 coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving N. Black off the field. K. Stenblom took his place. M. Chipende was the new captain of MKL75 - handed the armband by the departing player. As the 62 minute mark approached, the MKL75 coach decided it was time for a substitution. H. Enula reluctantly made way for O. Günberk on the pitch. O. Günberk gave MKL75 the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 2 - 1 70 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as M. Chipende broke through, making the score 3 - 1 for MKL75. The score became 4 - 1 at 76 minutes into the game, when MKL75 were given a penalty which A. Schmid-Hauser blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! At this point, it was obvious that the players of MKL75 lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. After 79 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by A. Schmid-Hauser might have resulted in another goal for MKL75. However, S. Lebedenko made a spectacular save. MKL75 enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.

MKL75's best player was O. Günberk. On the other hand, T. Gigon's play was disheartening. Konig's top performer was clearly A. Reņģe. A. Vecvīrs on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 1.
