Dark skies made the crowd of 8002 at FK Tukums 2000 Arena. a little nervous, but the rain held off. Oleg Nicolaescu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Noël Wesselink and Clement Eenstek. Tukums started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. They fielded: Pekhterev - Valnis, Laukmanis, Erchik - Treimanis, Vertelis, Migal, Īvulāns - Pankavets, Ansviesulis, Kabaks.

A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Varenie. The following players took the field: Štelle - Kairāns, Benefelds, Svetlykh, Bondars - Zeseris, Gebel, Kļaviņš, Druzhinin, Dāvidsons - Wyrobek.

After 2 minutes, Varenie put themselves up 0 - 1, as A. Kairāns finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. The home crowd was not impressed when P. Wyrobek came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 29 minutes. Varenie were now up 0 - 2. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2. Varenie had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

J. Kļaviņš increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. The players of Varenie now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. J. Kabaks sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from R. Ansviesulis after 56 minutes of play, making the score 1 - 3. After 79 minutes Varenie's A. Zeseris contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. U. Laukmanis behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 81 minutes as he gave the ball away to P. Wyrobek. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. Varenie enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

Most important Tukums player was A. Vertelis. However, A. Pekhterev made a disastrous appearance. Varenie's best player was A. Druzhinin. A. Zeseris was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 3.
