30-06-2012 11.15
The crowd of 33893 turning up at
Haabersti Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Ceyhun Kaleci was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Joël Geoffroy and
Jonas Jeppsson.
Haabersti decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Lineup: Śnieżek - Nardinocchi, Kamp, Gökbayrak, Fernandes Castro - Carrozzo, Fuchs, De Smaels, Palęga - Võsu, Ploom.
ACV had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Einama - Põld, Liiv, Russak - Sokk, Vaher, Ess, Lillo - Latt, Kagge, Strokov.
Haabersti immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents.
N. Fuchs slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
K. Ploom gave Haabersti the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0
In an effort to secure the lead, Haabersti changed their tactic after 36 minutes.
D. Carrozzo was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but
M. Palęga seemed unable to profit from this excellent service.
The pressing tactics used by Haabersti were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times.
After 39 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
G. De Smaels might have resulted in another goal for Haabersti. However,
A. Einama made a spectacular save.
It was 1 - 0 at the break.
Haabersti claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 69 percent.
After 47 minutes ACV's
N. Kagge limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
The Haabersti coach was visibly pleased with the score so far, but still ordered a few tactical changes 49 minutes into the game.
51 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
D. Carrozzo broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Haabersti.
By now, the players in Haabersti felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
ACV's
O. Latt had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 54 minutes having been played.
V. Talv was the replacement.
Haabersti's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle.
At this time in the match, Haabersti were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Haabersti, with 72 percent of the ball.
Haabersti's best player was
V. Võsu.
B. Śnieżek was a disappointment, however.
A. Einama performed admirably for ACV.
However,
E. Strokov made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 0.
