Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 74200 at
Caio Giulio Cesare today.
Gilbert Deyne was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Vito Radić and
Andrea Marazza.
A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Gozzadini.
They fielded: Pandori - Sciacca, Braithwaite, Konert, Marra - Tisiot, Godula, Giannantonio, Uccheddu, Retamosa - Jiménez de Parga.
Pollame decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Lineup: Türkü - Silaşi, Arechi, Somalo - Erbacher, Acosta, Barbareschi, Hartmans, Avdija - Davy, Kouki.
1 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Pollame substitution.
D. Reintiņš came on for
T. Türkü.
After 1 minutes, the Pollame coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
M. Silaşi off the field.
T. Campaña took his place.
Against a lesser team, Pollame could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 3 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
Gozzadini's
G. Giannantonio got himself booked for a foul.
Pollame were forced into a substitution as
R. Avdija couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
V. Strand to come in off the bench.
Gozzadini created a good opportunity to score 36 minutes into the match when
G. Giannantonio's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball.
It was 0 - 0 at the break.
Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.
The visiting
E. Acosta was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 55 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score.
Due to some great work on the right wing Gozzadini's
C. Uccheddu was able to even the score after 67 minutes to make the score 1 - 1.
As the 70 minute mark approached, the Gozzadini coach decided it was time for a substitution.
G. Giannantonio reluctantly made way for
M. Zucchi on the pitch.
After 70 minutes of play,
M. Zucchi gave the home team a 2 - 1 lead after an attack coming in from the right.
Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Gozzadini's
E. Retamosa somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
J. Jiménez de Parga, who struck for 3 - 1.
Gozzadini had to make a substitution after 74 minutes.
J. Jiménez de Parga limped off the field and was replaced by
S. Marinello.
Pollame fought on and, after 80 minutes,
S. Arechi was able to reduce the deficit to 3 - 2 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with an incredibly clever chip.
With 86 minutes played,
E. Retamosa could have brought this one home for Gozzadini as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Pollame, with 53 percent of the ball.
Most important Gozzadini player was
M. Zucchi.
However,
M. Konert made a disastrous appearance.
Pollame's best player was
D. Reintiņš.
L. Somalo turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 3 - 2.
